More bike stuff

blg_rims

Some of the stuff I ordered through my friend Mark at Rain City Bikes has started to come through and it’s looking really good. The wheels are coming together and I’m getting pretty excited about the build. Pictured above are Mavic Open Pro rims, 36 hole for the rear and 32 hole for the front – silver.

Frame progress

blg_frame

A little while ago I posted a picture of my frame when I originally stripped it down. Since then my friend Dave has been working on cleaning up the frame for me by stripping the paint and grinding down some of the superfluous parts (shifter mounts, cable guides, derailleur hanger etc). I went over to his place tonight to check out the progress and so far and it’s looking super good. Here’s a process shot of the dropouts with the derailleur hanger and rack mounts ground off. There’s still a little bit of paint on the frame but it should be ready to go soon. Hit the jump for a picture of the whole frame after the jump.

Ideas ♥

I’ve decided to create a new category called ideas, so as to have a consolidated place to put raw ideas. It’s hard to keep track of ideas in notebooks.

✔ What if instead of having a “top” button at the bottom of the page, your content looped as if it were laid out on a conveyer belt*

✔ What if Twitter had an automatic hash tag feature, where you could create a list of words you wanted to always hash tag so you wouldn’t have to remember to insert the # sign yourself.

*This has been prototyped by Raindrop developer James Burke, but is incomplete. Maybe one day it will come to fruition.

Bike 5

blg_pedals

Salvaged the Shimano 600 pedals off my old build and gave them some new life. Polished them, repacked the bearings and got some new leather straps.

Tangents 2

blg_tangents

Tangents went down on Friday night and it was awesome. Big congratulations to Jeff for putting it on and having it be a big success. Here’s a quick snapshot from the roof of the show. From left to right, Dave Emmens, Tom Bancroft, Harookz, and Harrison Boyce. Really psyched on running into Harookz for the first time in a long time!

Tangents

Going to check out the Tangents show that Jeff Hamada put together in collaboration with Lifetime Collective tonight. Should be a good one.

Bike 4

blg_sachs

I ordered a 32 hole Hi-stop coaster brake hub online the other day, but came across this freshly re-built vintage Sachs Komet hub yesterday and had to get it. I suppose I’ll build up the 36 hole Sachs hub and have the Hi-Stop kicking around.

Bike 3

blg_vittoria

Slowly but surely the parts are coming together. Just picked up a pair of Vittoria Zefir 22’s at Campione.

Bike 2

blg_sugino_cranks

Today has been a really good day, and it’s only 12:25pm. First off the post I made about Raindrop mobile got picked up on Tech Crunch and Lifehacker. Secondly, when I got off the computer and went upstairs I found my new pair of Sugino cranks waiting for me. Excited to get my frame back from the machine shop and mount these.

Stick

blg_stick

Just taped up a new Sher-Wood after exploding a stick last week. Should be good to go for the Chan Center Elite League this Wednesday night.

Bike 1

blg_miele

So for the past 4 or so years I’ve ridden this old 80’s Miele everywhere. I haven’t treated it very well and as such have decided to give it some new life over the course of this Winter. So far the plan is to strip the frame, powder-coat it (or maybe keep it raw, we’ll see how it looks) and build it up as a single speed conversion with a whole new build. This is the stage it’s at now. Should be fun to have something new to cruise around on soon.

MEC

blg_mec

Lately I’ve been shopping around for a replacement for my old worn out laptop bag. I was thinking about investing in something a little fancier, but realized that would be dumb and just went and got the most functional bag possible. I went into MEC for the first time in a while and was reminded that their stuff is awesome.

Gnarwhale Fall 2009

Back in January 2006 I started a BMX blog called Gnarwhale. I haven’t been able to update it as much since finishing school, but I gave authorship over to my friend Riley McMaster. It’s really awesome to see it still going strong despite not being as big a part of it. Above is the Gnarwhale Fall 2009 edit, and it’s so good.
