Ooma bowls

I just got these awesome bowls in the mail called Ooma Bowls from a fellow named Thomas Both. Thomas is a friend of a friend and needed a typeface for his company, Cube and Corner. Eventually Neighbourhood was chosen as the typeface and Thomas got in touch with me about making a trade – use of Neighbourhood in exchange for some bowls. I agreed, and finally got my bowl in the mail today. This thing is pretty neat. The whole idea is that it’s made for “tableless” dining, as more often than not we are eating food on the go. Check out the Cube and Corner website to read more about the bowl, and apparently you can now pick them up at the SFMOMA as well.

Bicycle ♥ ♥ ♥

After 3 months I’ve finally finished building my bike. It was fun to take on building a bike as a design project, and was a nice break from working on the computer. There are still things I would like to switch up, but for now I am really quite happy with it. It rides amazingly and the coaster brake is even more fun than I had anticipated. Here are some pictures I took today, specs after the jump. Click the images to see them bigger, or click here to comment on my flickr set.

Got some Redwing 875’s as a gift over the holidays (!!!).

Things on my desk

Here are some things that are on my desk right now.

1) A lovely christmas card illustrated by Jane Koo. (I think this is the greatest illustration ever, needs a frame).

2) A little notebook sent to me from Mark Caneso from pprwrkstudio. Mark also runs PSType.

3) The handbill for the Group Hug New Years Eve show that Byron Kopman brought by for me.

More bike stuff!

blg_wheel

My buddy Mark at Rain City Bikes just built up my rear wheel for me. I picked it up tonight and am super stoked on how it turned out. I threw on a tire when I got home and took some pictures. Hit the jump for a couple more pictures.

Defgrip ·•●

blg_purplerain

I’m writing this after getting back from an epic game of doubles ping pong with David Lang, Tom Chung, and Harrison Boyce. I don’t want to blow the spot, but the Gage residency in UBC has awesome ping pong tables for students to use, and it’s super easy to just walk in and use them. Anyway, Harrison was nice enough to hook up one of the shirts he made for Defgrip (the website Harrison runs for those unfamiliar). If you aren’t familiar with Defgrip I suggest you check it out. Hit the jump to check out the custom stamp tag.

More bike stuff

blg_rims

Some of the stuff I ordered through my friend Mark at Rain City Bikes has started to come through and it’s looking really good. The wheels are coming together and I’m getting pretty excited about the build. Pictured above are Mavic Open Pro rims, 36 hole for the rear and 32 hole for the front – silver.

Bike 5

blg_pedals

Salvaged the Shimano 600 pedals off my old build and gave them some new life. Polished them, repacked the bearings and got some new leather straps.

Bike 4

blg_sachs

I ordered a 32 hole Hi-stop coaster brake hub online the other day, but came across this freshly re-built vintage Sachs Komet hub yesterday and had to get it. I suppose I’ll build up the 36 hole Sachs hub and have the Hi-Stop kicking around.

Bike 3

blg_vittoria

Slowly but surely the parts are coming together. Just picked up a pair of Vittoria Zefir 22’s at Campione.

Bike 2

blg_sugino_cranks

Today has been a really good day, and it’s only 12:25pm. First off the post I made about Raindrop mobile got picked up on Tech Crunch and Lifehacker. Secondly, when I got off the computer and went upstairs I found my new pair of Sugino cranks waiting for me. Excited to get my frame back from the machine shop and mount these.

Bike 1

blg_miele

So for the past 4 or so years I’ve ridden this old 80’s Miele everywhere. I haven’t treated it very well and as such have decided to give it some new life over the course of this Winter. So far the plan is to strip the frame, powder-coat it (or maybe keep it raw, we’ll see how it looks) and build it up as a single speed conversion with a whole new build. This is the stage it’s at now. Should be fun to have something new to cruise around on soon.

MEC

blg_mec

Lately I’ve been shopping around for a replacement for my old worn out laptop bag. I was thinking about investing in something a little fancier, but realized that would be dumb and just went and got the most functional bag possible. I went into MEC for the first time in a while and was reminded that their stuff is awesome.
